Description
Tastes Like Granadilla • Golden Syrup • Pomelo • Rose Hips Manhattan's Take: A very special Red Bourbon from Rwanda — our first Rwandan coffee in the World Class category, and so complex we extended our usual three tasting notes to four. Grown and naturally processed at Jarama, the largest estate at Kivubelt Coffee Ltd in Nyamasheke District, sitting a few hundred meters higher than our other farms across an altitude of 1650 to 1900 meters. The high elevation, humid equatorial mist from Lake Kivu, and rich volcanic soils from the Virunga volcanoes create an ideal terroir. This Red Bourbon lot was naturally processed, preserving the bean's physical integrity while building a vibrant, expressive cup with layered fruit character. The most prominent flavors are granadilla, golden syrup, pomelo, and rose hips, with even more nuance waiting in the cup.
