Description

The 1st place winner Farm in 2021 COE Harvest: December 2025 PRODUCER'S DETAILS Pablo Andrés Guerrero, an architect born in Pasto, comes from a family that does not produce coffee. He began his agricultural activity in 1988 with cereal and fruit crops. But it was not until 2012 when he started with the cultivation of coffee.   FARM'S DETAILS Hacienda El Obraje is located in the municipality of Tangua, in the southern region of the department of Nariño, at an average altitude of 2200 meters above sea level, approximately 25 minutes from the capital of the department of Nariño. Fifty-five percent of the farm's area is set aside as an environmental reserve, where there is a wide variety of flora and fauna native to the region. Approximately 39 hectares are cultivated on the farm, where different varieties are distributed such as: caturra, castillo, maracaturra, geisha, typica, yellow bourbon, pink bourbon, moka, SL 28.   LOCATION DETAILS Tangua (1°05′44″N 77°23′38″O) is located in the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 2,403 meters above sea level. In general, the climate of the Municipality of Tangua is cold, with an average temperature of 16 °C. The northern and eastern part corresponds to the coldest part, averaging 12 °C, while the southern part has a temperate climate, which can reach an average of 22 °C. The urban part, which corresponds to the town of Tangua, is at 18 °C.   OTHER DETAILS The main harvest of the farm is concentrated between August, September and October. There are small intermediate harvests known as “mitaca” or “traviesa” during the months of December, January, February and March. This is uncommon in the other coffee growing regions of the department, due to the fact that the altitude at which the coffee is grown in the Tangua region is much higher than in other zones, which means that the physiological processes of the plant are slower and longer. The farm is widely recognized for the production of differentiated coffees, one of the most outstanding achievements was the first place obtained in 2021 in the Cup of Excellence Colombia, with a batch of the geisha variety and washed process.
