Description
Suke Quto H SEASONAL From the fertile highlands of the Guji Zone in southern Ethiopia, this semi-washed (honey) expression from Suke Quto Farm offers a beautifully balanced cup that highlights both clarity and fruit sweetness. Grown between 1,800 and 2,200 meters on volcanic soil and processed under careful, environmentally conscious protocols, the coffee reveals lively citrus brightness, soft nectarine sweetness, and gentle floral undertones, carried on a clean, delicate body and a refined finish. About Coffee Suke Quto Farm & Tesfaye Bekele Suke Quto Farm occupies rolling highland valleys in the Odo Shakisso district of Ethiopia’s Guji Zone, an area celebrated for expressive coffee profiles and biodiversity. The estate was established by Tesfaye Bekele, a visionary producer who helped introduce specialty coffee to the region and inspired many surrounding farms to adopt sustainable agroforestry practices. From spreading seedlings to reforest the land after devastating bushfires to establishing a model farm and washing station, Tesfaye’s commitment to both environmental renewal and coffee quality is foundational to the success of Guji coffee today. Region & Growing Conditions The volcanic soils of Guji, enriched through organic recycling and enriched by shade tree canopy, provide ideal conditions for heirloom varieties such as Kurume and Welicho to thrive. Coffee trees benefit from fertile ground, consistent rainfall, and significant diurnal temperature variation at altitude, all contributing to expressive acidity, fruit clarity, and aromatic complexity in the cup. Semi-Washed Processing At the Suke Quto washing station, ripe cherries are carefully depulped before undergoing extended fermentation (typically 35–48 hours) in concrete tanks. During this time, natural enzymatic activity subtly modifies the mucilage, enhancing sweetness and dimensionality. The coffee is then thoroughly washed and dried on raised African beds, developing a clean character with both brightness and smooth body. Sustainability & Community Impact Suke Quto coffees are grown to Organic and Rainforest Alliance standards, reflecting Tesfaye’s long-standing commitment to ecological stewardship and fair livelihoods for local workers and outgrowers. The farm also contributes to community development projects, including education initiatives that support families across neighbouring villages. This semi-washed Suke Quto captures the essence of Guji — a coffee that is both bright and nuanced, marrying fruit sweetness with floral clarity, and representing the thoughtful synergy of terroir, tradition, and care.
