Description
From Hacienda La Papaya — one of the defining producers behind modern Ecuadorian coffee. “This is exactly the kind of coffee that keeps drawing me back to Ecuador. There’s a calmness and precision to the cup that feels almost effortless. The florals are incredibly refined, the sweetness is deeply integrated, and the structure carries everything with remarkable clarity. Juan Peña continues to show why Hacienda La Papaya remains one of the world’s most important producers.” / Alexander Ruas Under the direction of Juan Peña, the farm has become a reference point for precision-driven cultivation, varietal research, and exceptional washed coffees. Typica Mejorado is Ecuador’s quiet masterpiece. A rare genetic intersection between traditional Typica and Ethiopian landrace varieties — combining structure, floral complexity, and remarkable sweetness. At nearly 2000 meters above sea level, under twelve steady hours of equatorial sunlight and cool Andean nights, the cherries mature slowly and evenly. The result is a coffee defined by clarity, balance, and luminous sweetness. Taste description: Tea rose florals up front, followed by honey sweetness, citrus clarity. In the cup you’ll find sweet red apple, cacao nibs, eucalyptus lift, silky, transparent and composed. Process: This coffee undergoes a meticulous 15-hour fully washed process using pure Andean spring water, followed by slow drying in sensor-controlled drying rooms designed to preserve aromatic precision and stability. Behind the cup sits a level of agronomic control rarely seen in coffee production. Real-time monitoring of soil nutrition, moisture, and cherry development allows Hacienda La Papaya to achieve exceptional bean density and consistency — coffees built for precision roasting and transparent flavor expression. Scoring 89 points in CafExporto’s quality analysis, the lot showed descriptors of floral honey, tea rose, sweet citrus, and velvet-like complexity.
