Introducing Congo Mapendo from Mighty Peace Coffee. Founded by Jim Ngokwey, Mighty Peace was born out of the Congolese peace movement. The Mighty Peace mission is driven by a desire to make a difference in the world through providing high quality coffee and sharing the stories of Congolese friends and partners to inspire, educate, and end poverty, injustice, and conflict worldwide. Mapendo, Swahili for “Love”, is farmed by a cooperative of diverse membership, 40% of whom are women. Fikiri Charolette, a farming member of the Mapendo coop, has been an extraordinary example of how coffee farming can positively impact an individual, and in turn, their community. Coffee farming has allowed her to buy a goat for breeding, to build a house, and to buy another field where she has planted coffee trees. With the manure produced by the goat, Fikiri is able to strengthen the ecosystem of her farm through the fertilization of the field.
