Uganda Sipi Falls

Process: Washed Varietal: SL28 Elevation: 1900 MASL Tasting Notes: Dark Chocolate, Cherry, Molasses This special coffee is grown in and around the beautiful villages in Sipi Falls, Uganda. High up in the mountains bordering Kenya, this area is known for its rich soil and ideal climate for growing excellent coffee. This coffee was grown by small family farms throughout the region and processed at a local mill who we partner with to get it to our roastery. In this area, most farms have been in the same family for generations and make up about one or two acres on average. This area is known for its coffee, but in the past several decades exploitative corporations and unfair government practices have made coffee farming extremely challenging for local Ugandans and contributed to severe poverty. Many farmers have resorted to abandoning coffee production in favor of other crops. By purchasing this coffee direct from a mill that works closely with farmers to ensure higher quality production and fair prices, coffee is becoming a viable source of income for farmers in this area. In 2023, we were able to travel to Sipi to meet with farmers, discuss fair practices and prices, and we are now able to offer something that is helping communities rebuild and create a more fair system for coffee production.
