Description
Origin: Peru Region: Inkawasi, Cusco Farm: Montaña Alta Producer: Jaime Huayllas Altitude: 2350 masl Variety: SL09 Lot: #1 Crop: Picked in Nov. 2025 / Arrived in Feb. 2026 Process: Washed About farm: High in the Peruvian Andes, at the foot of the majestic Apu Choqesafra mountain, lies Montaña Alta Estate, a small high-altitude coffee farm in the remote district of Inkawasi in the Cusco region. Situated at 2,350 meters above sea level, the estate benefits from one of the most extreme coffee-growing environments in Peru. The volcanic soils in this region are naturally rich in minerals and organic matter, providing an ideal foundation for cultivating exceptional coffee. Surrounded by dramatic Andean landscapes, the farm overlooks the snow-capped peaks of Choqesafra and a series of rugged mountains that define the Inkawasi valley. The farm is stewarded by Jaime Huayllas, who cultivates coffee in harmony with the surrounding ecosystem. Native forest trees grow throughout the property, creating a natural canopy that protects the coffee trees from intense sun while enriching the soil with organic matter as leaves and branches fall and decompose. The environment is also home to diverse birdlife and wildlife, reflecting the farm's healthy ecological balance. Coffee harvest at Montaña Alta typically begins in September and continues through January, when ripe cherries are carefully hand-picked at peak maturity. The high altitude and cool Andean climate allow the cherries to develop slowly, resulting in dense beans and complex flavor profiles.
