Description
This Red Catuai is organically grown between 600–1300 masl. It is dried as a full natural, first in the sun, then supported by mechanical dryers for consistency. The result is a classic Brazilian natural profile, but with better definition. Round-bodied, with notes of chocolate, toasted almond, pear and cane sugar. Acidity is low and comfortable, making it forgiving with any brew method. On espresso, it produces syrupy shots with a clean cocoa sweetness, reliable, consistent, and ideal for milk-based drinks. As a filter coffee, classic and easy-drinking, leaning more toward confectionary sweetness than fruit. Fazendas Dutra is a family-run group of farms in the Matas de Minas region of Brazil, near Caputira, Minas Gerais. The Dutra family has been growing coffee here for four generations, steadily expanding from a single hectare in the 1950s to a collection of small, interconnected farms planted with millions of coffee trees. Their landscape is made up of varied hills, some gently rolling, others more sharply sloped, rich with clay-based soils and protected native forest. Agroforestry and Wildlife Fazendas Dutra embraces a regenerative organic approach to coffee production, prioritizing ecological balance and long-term sustainability. Their farms are a testament to the power of agroforestry, where coffee plants thrive amidst a diverse ecosystem. More than 5,000 avocado trees provide shade and enrich the soil. African mahogany and a variety of fruit trees further enhance biodiversity, attracting beneficial insects and creating a haven for wildlife. Strategically planted eucalyptus trees provide windbreaks and provide a renewable resource. Fazendas Dutra’s ecosystem thrives with hundreds of birds and other animals, thanks to their organic farming practices. By avoiding harmful pesticides and embracing biodiversity, they create a haven for wildlife. Their agroforestry approach, with diverse trees like avocados, bananas, and other fruits and seeds, provides food and shelter for these creatures, fostering a healthy and balanced environment.
