Description
Tasting notes: Fruity and sweet with notes of dried fruit and wild strawberries. Best brewed on a espresso machine, with a moka pot, or french press. Try it in your summer iced lattes. Summer Espresso comes from the Gatugi washing station in the renowned Nyeri coffee region. The washing station receives coffee berries from nearby coffee farms and refines coffee with a classic Kenyan flavor profile with fruity flavors. Gatugi was built in 1979 near the village of the same name and is located between Aberdare and Mount Kenya at an altitude of 1863 meters above sea level. On these slopes, the coffee trees grow in rich, red, volcanic soil, often without shade trees. Coffee from this area is highly sought after and offers fresh and complex flavors of dark berries, especially blackcurrant. Gatugi collects coffee berries from local coffee farmers who are affiliated with the washing station. When the bags of coffee berries are delivered, the berries are hand-sorted with strict requirements for size, weight and quality, before being processed. The high quality of everything they do at the washing station is the key to Gatugi’s success in bringing out the unique and berry-fresh flavors that the best Kenyan coffee batches have become so sought after.
